8thJan 2018: A review cum planning workshop of Farmer Producer Companies organized by SVA with financial assistance of NABARD, was held at Presidency hotel in Bhubaneswar. Dr. K.C Panigrahi, CGM-NABARD inaugurated the workshop as the Chief Guest and addressed the participants. As resource person – Shri P.R Jha addressed the participants on preparation of Business Plan, implementation of techniques and technology to reduce cost of cultivation and maintain uniformity in quality of crops, register the farmers on E-Naam and other digital marketing platforms and linking FPOs with banks. The workshop was presided by Shri Jagadish Pradhan, President cum Director of SVA who highlighted on the concept of Seed to Market strategy by the FPOs. Shri Bichitra Senapati from Farm & Farmers Foundation, explained to the participants on Lemon Grass oil and how the FPOs can introduce Lemon Grass crop in their area and can get good returns from its sale due to high demand in the international market. CEOs of different FPOs gave presentation on the work progress and future plan of their respective companies. The workshop ended with felicitation of the best performing FPOs by the Chief Guest.
“Know your Rights” – an awareness programme for new-to-banking customers, held at Khariar, Dist-Nuapada, Odisha
On 10th October 2017, in association with Sahabhagi Vikash Abhiyan(SVA), Banking Codes and Standards Board of India(BCSBI) had organised “Know your Rights” – an awareness programme for new-to-banking customers, held at Khariar, Dist-Nuapada, Odisha. The meeting was presided by Shri Anand Aras, CEO, BCSBI; Ms Hemalata Rajan, Senior VP, BCSBI and Shri Jagadish Pradhan, Director, SVA. Over 200 small and marginal Farmers participated in the meeting. The participants were enlightened on the Banking Codes and how they can protect their rights while using banking services in their day-to-day financial transactions. The interactive session highlighted the importance of having a nominee for their banking products like savings accounts and fixed deposits, exchanging soiled/torn notes, privacy and confidentiality, digital banking and grievance redressal mechanism addressed in the codes.
07.10.2017: Swachh Bharat Programme organized by SVA:
On 7th October 2017,keeping in line with the Swachh Bharat mission, SVA in association withNABARD, organized village cleaning and sanitation programme in 3 Villages Bhanpur, Bagpur and Boringpadar under the GP-Bhanpur, Bagpur and Balsingha respectively in Kalahandi district, Odisha. Villagers were made aware of the importance of this programme and they took part in the cleaning drive, and pledged to keep their surrounding clean.
28th – 30th August 2017: 3 days Training for CEO / Directors of Farmer Producer Companies:
The Training cum workshop held at DRTC – Bhubaneswar was attended by 22 CEOs and 31 Directors from 22 Farmer Producer Organisations. The programme was inaugurated by DGM (NABARD)- Shri N.C.Pani and Valedictory address given by Sh. P.K.Panda, G.M (NABARD Regional Office, Bhubaneswar). As Resource Persons, CA & CS.-R. K Kara , CA H.K.Nayak and Ms.Jayashree Pradhan, conducted various sessions on topics like Financial Management, Business Plan and Fund Mobilization strategy in the FPOs, Scope of Networking among the FPOs and making of Marketing and Sales strategy of selling the produces. Sessions were facilitated by the SVA POPI Team under the guidance of Sh.Jagadish Pradhan, President of SVA. In the valedictory session, Shri Chaitanya Pradhan (President, Prakruti Bandhu FPCL), Smt. Basanti Singh (President, Mahamayee FPCL) and Ms. A. Rajalaxmi (CEO, Tamanada WAFPCL) were facilitated for their commendable performance during the year 2016-17.
Maize crop field of Shri Biswanath Bag ,village Belgaon,District Nuapada, Odisha:
Inspite of deficit rainfall, the crop has come up well. Samaleswari Farmer Producer Company(Promoted by SVA) in collaboration with FnF, has promoted maize cultivation among more than 250 of its members in Komna block.
Maize crop has been found to be a much better alternative to cotton crop for the uplands in rain fed areas .The approach of SFPCL has been to provide services ‘FROM SEED TO MARKET’.

On 11th August 2017:Odisha Producer Company Limited(OPCL), promoted by SVA, was felicitated with award by Odisha Assembly of Small & Medium Enterprises in Bhubaneswar, for being one of the best Farmer Producer Companies in Odisha.
OPCL is mainly into processing of Spices and the spices are available in the markets of Nuapada, Kalahandi and Balangir district with the brand name Swaraj. Recently OPCL with financial support from NABARD, built two Onion Storage Godowns in village Bilenjore of District Nuapada, Odisha. Both the storage godowns have capacity to store 25 metric tonne each and each costs Rs.3,00,000/-. In such a godown onion can be stored for 5-6 months during April – October without use of any artificial cooling system.
NABARD RURAL IMMERSION PROGRAMME AT – SVA Kalahandi:
2nd July 2017 to 29th July 2017
As selected by NABARD, SAHABHAGI VIKASH ABHIYAN conducted the four weeks long Rural Immersion Programme for the second year, during 02/07/2017. This time it was for six Direct Recruit Officers (DROs) of NABARD who were placed at its Bhawanipatna field centre. During this programme the DROs were facilitated to get an understanding of the issues associated with Rural Development, Agriculture, Tribal Development, Rural Livelihoods etc. During the four weeks they spent most of their time visiting villages, meeting with functionaries of Farmer Producer Organizations, visiting Grass root level Institutions such as Gram Panchayat, Primary Agriculture Co-operative societies and meeting with their leaders. They also visited the Offices, Local Banks and learned on the functioning of various government schemes and projects. In the team of six officers two were from Assam and four were from the Odisha Regional Office. During this programme the DROs prepared a village Development Plan (Micro level plan) by conducting PRAs in village Khairmal of Narla block Kalahandi. During the field visits they also visited the projects undertaken by Harsha Trust and J.K.Papermills (in Rayagada district), Gram Vikash, A.F.C., Mahashakti Foundation, Seba Jagat and others in Kalahandi district.
On 12th July 2017: Odisha Producer Company Limited(OPCL), promoted by SVA, was felicitated by NABARD for being one of the best performing Farmer Producer Organisation in Odisha. Farmers Club Sabuja Biplaba Krushaka Sangha, Village-Chata of Nuapada district and JLG- Maa Saraswati , Village-Garadamunda, Dist-Nuapada , operating under projects of SVA, were also felicitated for their outstanding performance by NABARD.
MAIZE is emerging as a major crop in Nuapada and Kalahandi districts:
The Farmer Producer Companies promoted by SVA in Kalahandi and Nuapada districts of Odisha have launched a campaign to promote hybrid maize cultivation in the drought prone pockets of the region. The FPOs such as Manikeswari Farmer Producer Company Ltd., Sundar FPCL, Udanti FPCL and Samaleswari FPCL have taken up a programme to provide good quality seeds to their members and also provide support technical guidance and marketing of their produces. For this they have been working closely with S.V.A., OPCL, FnF and the Government Departments.
Maize is being taken up as an alternative crop to cotton and farmers are happy that incase of maize cultivation they are not required to use so much of pesticides and chemical fertilizers which damage their soil.
Low Cost Onion Godown and Packhouse Inaugurated:
To assist the local onion farmers to store their onions to sell at better price, Odisha Producer Company Limited (OPCL)- promoted by Sahabhagi Vikash Abhiyan(SVA) with financial support from NABARD has built two Onion Storage Godowns in village Bilenjore of District Nuapada, Odisha. Millet Cultivation For Health And Nutrition:
SVA with financial support from Government of Odisha, has been promoting Millet Cultivation in Narla and Sinapali blocks of Kalahandi and Nuapada districts respectively. This year the target is to work with 1000 tribal farmers but eventually the numbers is to increase in the coming years.
For this programme WASAN – a support NGO based in Hyderabad is providing technical support and at the district level ATMA (a unit of Agriculture Department) is providing extension support to the farmers. This year the major thrust has been to introduce line sowing of Ragi and Finger Millets along with System of Millet Intensification (SMI)
07-06-2017: NABARD had conducted 1st State Level Mango Festival at Bhubaneswar from 3rd June to 6th June 2017. It was conducted to showcase different varieties of Mango grown by Farmers through WADI Projects . Udanti Farmer Producer Company, promoted by Sahabhagi Vikash Abhiyan(POPI) had participated in the festival and marketed Mango varieties like Amrapali, Sinduri and Duseri. The mangoes were procured from WADI farmers of Sianpalli block in Nuapada district of Odisha . The speciality of these mangoes are that no carbide are used on it and they are naturally ripened.
11-04-2017:SVA with support from NABARD, had organised an exposure visit of CEOs and members of few Farmer Producer Companies in Odisha, to a successfully running Producer Company- Kisan Beej in Chattisgarh on 6th & 7th April 2017.
03-12-2016:On 2nd December 2016, with the support from NABARD, SVA promoted a state level consortium of Farmers Producer Companies- Utkal Krushak Samanwaya Pro ducer Company Limited (UKSPCL). UKSPCL is a producer company registered under Companies Act 2013.? UKSPCL aims at providing marketing and other service support to its members which are? Farmer Producer Companies spread over 20 districts in Odisha. The Key business of UKSPCL includes marketing of seeds & fertilisers, aggregation and marketing of agriculture produce and other services.?A retail outlet was also opened representing UKSPCL, in Bhubaneswar and is currently acting as a channel to sell the agriculture produce procured from various FPOs and selling them directly to the consumers.
20-11-2017:Exposure visit of CEOs and BOD Members of few FPOs in Odisha,to a Producer Company-Shri Rajiv Lochan Agro Invention Producer Company Limited in Chhattisgarh, was organised by SVA with support from NABARD from 17th to 19th November 2016.
